The Olympus Magna-Mike 8500 is a handheld device that uses magnetism to measure the thickness of non-ferrous materials. It works by placing a small steel ball on one side of the material and holding the Magna-Mike’s probe on the opposite side. A sensor in the probe measures the distance between the probe and the ball, which is then displayed as the thickness on a digital screen. This gage is useful for taking measurements in hard-to-reach areas due to its small size and because it doesn’t damage the material being measured.

- Accuracy: ± 0.1 mils (2.5 µm) or ± 0.1% of the measured value, whichever is greater
